How to bless the dorje and bell
When divided terminologically: རྡོོར་དྲིལ་ལ་སྒྲས་བརྗོད་རིགས་ཀྱི་སྒོ་ནས།
- Actual dorje and bell (that symbolised) མཚོོན་བྱ་དོོན་གྱི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ།
i.e. Method (great bliss) and Wisdom (the exalted wisdom realising emptiness)
ཐབས་བདེ་བ་ཆེན་པོོ་དང་ཤེས་རབ་སྟོོང་པ་ཉིད་རྟོོགས་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་ནི། མཚོོན་བྱ་དོོན་གྱི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ་ཡིན། - Symbolic dorje and bell (the symbolisers) མཚོོན་བྱེད་རྟགས་ཀྱི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ་གཉིས་ཡོོད།
i.e. The dorje and bell being blessed in this context
འདིར་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་བྱའི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ་ནི། མཚོོན་བྱེད་རྟགས་ཀྱི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ་ཡིན།
མཚོོན་བྱ་དོོན་གྱི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ། ངེས་དོོན་གྱི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ། ནང་གི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ་རྣམས་དོོན་གཅིག
Actual dorje and bell (that symbolised), definitive meaning dorje and bell, and inner dorje and bell are mutually inclusive.
མཚོོན་བྱེད་རྟགས་ཀྱི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ། དཔེའི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ། ཕྱིའི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ། འདིར་བསྟན་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་བྱའི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ་རྣམས་དོོན་གཅིག
Symbolic dorje and bell (the symbolisers), example dorje and bell, external dorje and bell, and dorje and bell being blessed in this context are mutually inclusive.
Individual descriptions of the symbolic dorje and bell:
The way of blessing them by remembering the symbolism མཚོོན་དོོན་དྲན་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་ཚུལ་ནི།
བཤེས་གཉེན་བསྟེན་ཚུལ་ནས་མི་སློོབ་པའི་ཟུང་འཇུག་རྡོོ་རྗེ་འཆང་གི་བར་གྱི་ཐབས་ཀྱི་ཆ་ཐམས་ཅད་རྡོོ་རྗེས་མཚོོན་པར་བྱེད་པའོོ་སྙམ་དུ་དྲན་ནས་རྡོོ་རྗེ་བཟུང་བ་དང་།
Thinking "All the aspects of method - from the way of relying on the spiritual teacher and up to the non-learner's union of Dorje Chang are symbolised by the dorje.", one takes hold of the dorje.
བཤེས་གཉེན་བསྟེན་ཚུལ་ནས་མི་སློོབ་པའི་ཟུང་འཇུག་རྡོོ་རྗེ་འཆང་གི་བར་གྱི་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་ཆ་ཐམས་ཅད་དྲིལ་བུས་མཚོོན་པར་བྱེད་པའོོ་སྙམ་དུ་དྲན་ནས་དྲིལ་བུ་བཟུང་།
Thinking "All the aspects of wisdom - from the way of relying on the spiritual teacher and up to the non-learner's union of Dorje Chang are symbolised by the bell.", one takes hold of the bell.
རྡོོར་དྲིལ་གཉིས་ཀའང་དོོན་དམ་པའི་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཀྱི་སེམས་བདེ་སྟོོང་གཉིས་སུ་མེད་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཀྱི་ངོ་བོོ་ཡིན་ནོོ་སྙམ་དུ་དྲན་པ་དང་།
Thinking "Also, both dorje and bell are the nature of the exalted wisdom of non-dual bliss and emptiness, ultimate bodhicitta." and
མཚོོན་བྱ་དོོན་གྱི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ་བདེ་སྟོོང་གཉིས་སུ་མེད་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་དང་།
མཚོོན་བྱེད་རྟགས་ཀྱི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ་གཉིས་དང་མི་འབྲལ་བར་བཟུང་བར་བྱའོོ་སྙམ་དུ་དྲན་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་བཟུང་དགོས་ཤིང་།
Thinking "The symbolised actual dorje and bell, i.e. the exalted wisdom of non-dual bliss and emptiness, should be held as inseparable from the symbolic dorje and bell.", and in that way they should be held.
གོང་དུ་བཤད་པའི་མཚོོན་དོོན་དུ་མ་ཡང་དྲན་པར་བྱའོོ།
Also, one should think about the many symbolic meanings explained above.
སྒྲུབ་ཐབས་ཀྱི་མགོར་རྡོོར་དྲིལ་འདི་ལྟར་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་པའི་དགོས་པ་ནི། ་་་མཁས་མཆོག་དུ་མས་གསུངས་པ་ལྟར་རོོ།
The purpose of blessing the dorje and bell as such at the start of the sādhana is explained by many supreme masters to be:
- Through remembering the symbolic meanings of the symbolic dorje and bell it is understood that the symbolised definitive meaning dorje and bell (the exalted wisdom of indivisible bliss and emptiness) are the life of the path མཚོོན་བྱེད་དཔེའི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ་གྱི་མཚོོན་དོོན་དྲན་པས། མཚོོན་བྱ་ངེས་དོོན་གྱི་རྡོོར་དྲིལ་བདེ་སྟོོང་དབྱེར་མེད་ཀྱི་ཡེ་ཤེས་དེ་ཉིད་ལམ་གྱི་སྲོོག་དམ་པ་ཡིན་པར་ཤེས་པའི་ཆེད་དུ་དང་།
- To understand that the entire ritual, from start to end, must be embraced by bliss and emptiness
ཆོ་གའི་མགོ་མཇུག་ཐམས་ཅད་བདེ་སྟོོང་གི་རྩིས་ཟིན་དགོས་པར་ཤེས་པའི་ཆེད་དུ་དང་། - To understand that from the start of the ritual, it is necessary to not be separated from the three or four commitments ཆོ་གའི་མགོ་ནས་བཟུང་སྟེ་དམ་ཚིག་གསུམ་མམ་བཞི་དང་མ་བྲལ་བ་ཞིག་དགོས་པར་ཤེས་པའི་ཆེད་དུ་ཡིན་པར་
དེས་ན་རྡོོ་རྗེ་ནམ་བཟུང་རེས་ཀྱིས་ཐབས་བདེ་བ་ཆེན་པོོ་དྲན་པ་དང་། དྲིལ་བུ་ནམ་བཟུང་རེས་ཀྱིས་ཤེས་རབ་སྟོོང་ཉིད་ཀྱི་ལྟ་བ་དྲན་པར་བྱའོོ།
Therefore, one should think about method, i.e. great bliss, whenever one holds the dorje and one should think about wisdom, i.e. the view of emptiness, whenever one holds the bell.
The three commitments are: དམ་ཚིག་གསུམ་ནི།
- The mind commitment: the dorje རྡོོ་རྗེ་ཐུགས་ཀྱི་དམ་ཚིག
- The speech commitment: the bell དྲིལ་བུ་གསུང་གི་དམ་ཚིག
- The body commitment: generating oneself as the deity རང་ལྷར་བསྐྱེད་པ་སྐུའི་དམ་ཚིག་སྟེ་གསུམ་དང་།
རྡོོར་དྲིལ་དང་བཅས་པས་ཡུམ་ལ་འཁྱུད་པར་བསྒོམ་པ་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་དམ་ཚིག་སྟེ་བཞིའོོ།
The fourth [added to those] is the wisdom commitment: Meditating on embracing the mother while holding the dorje and bell.
དེ་ལྟར་ན་རྡོོར་དྲིལ་ནམ་བཟུང་རེས་ཀྱིས་དམ་ཚིག་དེ་དག་ཀྱང་མ་བརྗེད་པར་དྲན་པར་བྱའོོ།
As such, whenever one holds the dorje and bell, one should think about and not forget these commitments.
