Common preliminaries

སྔར་བཤད་པ་ལྟར་ལམ་གྱི་རྩ་བ་བཤེས་གཉེན་བསྟེན་ཚུལ། དལ་འབྱོར་རྙེད་དཀའ། འཆི་བ་མི་རྟག་པ་བསམ་པ།
ལས་འབྲས། འཁོར་བའི་ཉེས་དམིགས། ངན་སོང་གི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་བསམ་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་དེ་དག་ལས་ཐར་འདོད་ཀྱི་བློ་བསྐྱེད་དེ།
By way of contemplating the way of relying upon the spiritual teacher (the root of the path), the difficulty of finding freedom and opportunity, death and impermanence, actions and their results, the faults of samsara, and the sufferings of the lower realms, generate the awareness wishing for liberation.

དེ་ལས་སྐྱོབ་པའི་སྐྱབས་དཀོན་མཆོག་གསུམ་ཁོ་ན་ཡིན་ཚུལ་སོགས་སྙིང་ཐག་པ་ནས་བྱེད་པ། བྱང་ཆུབ་ཀྱི་སེམས་གཉིས་སྒོམ་པ་དང་ཕྱིན་དྲུག་བསྡུ་བཞི་དང་བཅས་ལེགས་པར་བསླབ་ཅིང་། ཞི་གནས་ལྷག་མཐོང་རང་རྒྱུད་ལ་བསྐྱེད་པ་སོགས་ལ་ལེགས་པར་སྦྱངས་པ་སྣོད་རུང་དང་པོ་དང་།
Then, make the way in which only the Three Jewels of Refuge can protect you from those [sufferings] and so forth heartfelt, meditate on the two minds of enlightenment together with training in the four ways of gathering disciples, and generate calm abiding and special insight in one's continuum. Properly training in these and so forth is the first step [in becoming] a suitable vessel.

ཡི་དམ་འདིའི་དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་དུ་སྐུ་བཞིའི་ས་བོན་ཐེབས་ངེས་ཀྱི་དབང་བཞི་རྣམ་པར་དག་པ་ཐོབ་ཅིང་།
དབང་དུས་སུ་ཁས་བླངས་པའི་དམ་སྡོམ་ཚུལ་བཞིན་དུ་བསྲུང་བ་སྣོད་རུང་གཉིས་པ་དང་།
Then, obtain the pure four empowerments into the mandala of this yidam, which definitively plant the seeds of the Four Bodies, and properly guard the vows and commitments taken during the empowerment. This is the second step [in becoming] a suitable vessel.

བསྐྱེད་རིམ་ཕྲ་རགས་མཐར་ཕྱིན་པའི་བར་ལ་སློབ་པ་ནི་སྣོད་རུང་གསུམ་པ་སྟེ།
Then, train until the completion of the coarse and subtle generation stage. This is the third step [in becoming] a suitable vessel.

འདི་དག་རྫོགས་རིམ་ལ་ལྟོས་ནས་ཐུན་མོང་བའི་སྔོན་འགྲོར་བཞག་པར་གསུངས་སོ།
These are posited as the common preliminaries in relation to the Completion Stage.
