Generation Stage

བསྒོམས་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས་རླུང་དབུ་མར་ཞུགས་གནས་ཐིམ་གསུམ་བྱས་པ་ལས་མ་བྱུང་ཞིང། རང་འབྲས་རྫོགས་རིམ་གྱི་རྒྱུད་སྨིན་བྱེད་གང་ཞིག སྐྱེ་ཤི་བར་དོ་གསུམ་པོ་ཅི་རིགས་དང་རྣམ་པ་མཐུན་པར་བློས་གསར་དུ་བརྟགས་ནས་སྒོམ་པའི་རྣལ་འབྱོར། བསྐྱེད་རིམ་གྱི་མཚན་ཉིད། ཡིན་པར་པཎ་ཆེན་བློ་བཟང་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི་གསུངས།
Definition by Panchen Losang Chokyi Gyaltsen: A yoga that:

1. Does not arise from having the winds enter, abide, and dissolve into the central channel through the force of meditation, but ripens the continuum for its resultant completion stage; and
2. Is cultivated through the awareness newly investigating any aspect of the three: birth, death, and the bardo.

When divided: བསྐྱེད་རིམ་ལ་དབྱེ་ན།

1. Coarse yoga of single recall རགས་པ་དྲན་པ་གཅིག་པའི་རྣལ་འབྱོར།
   Mutually inclusive with Coarse Generation Stage བསྐྱེད་རིམ་རགས་པ་དང་དོན་གཅིག
2. Subtle yoga of investigation ཕྲ་བ་རྟོག་པའི་རྣལ་འབྱོར།
   Mutually inclusive with Subtle Generation Stage བསྐྱེད་རིམ་ཕྲ་བ་དང་དོན་གཅིག

ལམ་རྒྱུད་ལ་སྐྱེ་བའི་གནས་སྐབས་ཀྱི་སྒོ་ནས།
When persons are divided by way of the occasion of generating the path in their continuum:

1. Beginners ལས་དང་པོ་བའི་གང་ཟག
2. Persons for whom some exalted wisdom as descended ཡེ་ཤེས་ཅུང་ཟད་འབབ་པའི་གང་ཟག
3. Persons who have attained some mastery over exalted wisdom ཡེ་ཤེས་ལ་ཅུང་ཟད་དབང་ཐོབ་པའི་གང་ཟག
4. Persons who have attained complete mastery over exalted wisdom ཡེ་ཤེས་ལ་ཡང་དག་པར་དབང་ཐོབ་པའི་གང་ཟག

Unique objects of abandonment of the Generation Stage:

1. Ordinary appearances ཐ་མལ་བའི་སྣང་བ། (appearances of ordinary contained and container to the mental consciousness ཡིད་ཤེས་ལ་ཐ་མལ་བའི་སྣོད་བཅུད་དུ་སྣང་བ།)
   Antidote: Cultivating pure appearances (དག་སྣང་།) of the support and supported
2. Ordinary pride ཐ་མལ་བའི་ཞེན་པ།
   Antidote: Cultivating divine pride (ལྷའི་ང་རྒྱལ།)

བསྐྱེད་རིམ་གྱི་སྐབས་སུ་ངེས་པར་ཞི་གནས་བསྒྲུབ་དགོས་ལ་དེ་ཡང་ཕྲ་ཐིག་གི་རྣལ་འབྱོར་གྱིས་བྱ་དགོས་སོ།
During the Generation Stage it is definitely necessary to accomplish calm abiding and that is necessarily done through the Yoga of the Subtle Drop:

1. Coarse generation stage: In order to eliminate laxity and excitement བྱིང་རྒོད་གཅོད་པའི་ཆེད་ཡིན།
   Method: Holding the mind upon a hand symbol or subtle drop at the upper and lower openings
   སྟེང་འོག་གི་ཕྱག་མཚན་ནམ་ཐིག་ལེ་ཕྲ་མོ་ལ་སེམས་འཛིན།
2. Subtle generation stage:
   • Calm abiding is attained through cultivating the complete support and supported mandala inside of the hand symbol or subtle drop and it is stable at the upper opening
     ཕྱག་མཚན་ནམ་ཐིག་ལེ་ཕྲ་མོའི་ནང་དུ་རྟེན་དང་བརྟེན་པའི་དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་ཡོངས་རྫོགས་སྒོམ་ནས། སྟེང་སྒོའི་ཕྲ་མོ་བརྟན་པ་ན་ཞི་གནས་ཐོབ།
   • Then, through repeated emanation and gathering using wisdom of individual investigation the excellent meditative stabilisation that is a union of calm abiding and special insight is attained
     དེ་ནས་སོ་སོར་རྟོགས་པའི་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱིས་སྤྲོ་བསྡུ་ཡང་ཡང་བྱས་པ་དེས་ཞི་ལྷག་ཟུང་འབྲེལ་གྱི་ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན་ཕུལ་ཕྱིན་རྙེད་ཅིང་།
   • When such a yoga is stable, then the generation stage is posited to be complete.
     དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་རྣལ་འབྱོར་བརྟན་པ་ན་བསྐྱེད་རིམ་མཐར་ཕྱིན་པར་འཇོག
