The Twelve Sources
- The six faculties:
- The five physical faculties དབང་པོ་གཟུགས་ཅན་ལྔ།
- Mental faculty (ཡིད་དབང་།) = Mental-source (ཡིད་ཀྱི་སྐྱེ་མཆེད།)
- The six objects:
- The five objects of form and so forth གཟུགས་སོགས་དོན་ལྔ་པོ།
- Phenomenon-source (ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྐྱེ་མཆེད།)
Alternatively:
- Ten: Physical-sources (གཟུགས་ཅན་གྱི་སྐྱེ་མཆེད་བཅུ།) = Physical constituents (གཟུགས་ཅན་གྱི་ཁམས་བཅུ།)
- The five physical faculties དབང་པོ་གཟུགས་ཅན་ལྔ།
- The five objects of form and so forth གཟུགས་སོགས་དོན་ལྔ་པོ།
- Two:
- Phenomenon-source (ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྐྱེ་མཆེད།) = Phenomenon constituent (ཆོས་ཀྱི་ཁམས།)
- Mental-source (ཡིད་ཀྱི་སྐྱེ་མཆེད།) = Mental constituent (ཡིད་ཀྱི་ཁམས།)
The order of the six faculties is definite because: དབང་པོ་དྲུག་གི་གོ་རིམས་ངེས་ཏེ།
- Between the physical and mental faculties:
- Since the five physical-faculties only possess present objects, they are indicated first
དབང་པོ་གཟུགས་ཅན་ལྔ་ཡུལ་ད་ལྟ་བ་ཁོ་ནའི་ཡུལ་ཅན་ཡིན་པས་དང་པོར་བསྟན། - Since the mental-faculty possesses objects of all three times, it is indicated after
ཡིད་དབང་དུས་གསུམ་གའི་ཡུལ་ཅན་ཡིན་པས་ཕྱིས་བསྟན་ནས།
- Since the five physical-faculties only possess present objects, they are indicated first
- Among the five physical-faculties: གཟུགས་ཅན་ལྔའི་ནང་ནས་
- Since the first four only possess objects that are arisen from elements, they are indicated first
དང་པོ་བཞི་འབྱུང་འགྱུར་ཁོ་ནའི་ཡུལ་ཅན་ཡིན་པས་དང་པོར་བསྟན། - Since the body-faculty possesses objects that are both elements and arisen from elements, it is indicated after ལུས་དབང་འབྱུང་བ་དང༌། འབྱུང་འགྱུར་གཉིས་ཀའི་ཡུལ་ཅན་ཡིན་པས་ཕྱིས་སྟོན།
- Since the first four only possess objects that are arisen from elements, they are indicated first
- Among the first four: དང་པོ་བཞིའི་ནང་ནས་
- Since the two of eye and ear apprehend objects without meeting their objects, they are presented first
མིག་རྣ་གཉིས་རང་ཡུལ་དང་མ་ཕྲད་པར་ཡུལ་འཛིན་པས་སྔར་བསྟན། - Since the two of nose and tongue apprehend through meeting their objects, they are indicated after
སྣ་ལྕེ་གཉིས་ཀྱིས་རང་ཡུལ་དང་ཕྲད་ནས་འཛིན་པས་ཕྱིས་བསྟན།
- Since the two of eye and ear apprehend objects without meeting their objects, they are presented first
- Among the first two: དང་པོ་གཉིས་ཀྱི་ནང་ནས་
- Since the eye engages from afar, it is indicated first མིག་གིས་རིང་བ་ལ་འཇུག་པས་སྔར་བསྟན།
- Since relative to that, the ear engages closer objects, it is indicated after
རྣ་བ་དེ་ལ་ལྟོས་ཏེ། ཡུལ་ཉེ་བ་ལ་འཇུག་པས་ཕྱིས་སྟོན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
