Temporary vows

རྩ་བ་བཞི་དང་ཡན་ལག་བཞི་སྟེ་སྤང་བྱ་བརྒྱད་ཉིན་ཞག་གཅིག་གི་བར་དུ་སྤོང་བར་མནོས་པས་རབ་ཏུ་ཕྱེ་བའི་རིགས་སུ་གནས་པའི་སོ་ཐར་གྱི་སྡོམ་པར་དམིགས་པ།
བསྙེན་གནས་ཀྱི་སྡོམ་པའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: That observed as an individual liberation vow abiding in the class distinguished by committing to abandon the eight objects of abandonment - the four roots and four branches - for one day.

One day vow (Eight Mahayana Precepts) to abandon: ཞག་གཅིག་སྤོང་བར་ཁས་བླངས་པའི་སྡོམ་པ།

• The four roots and alcohol རྩ་བ་བཞི་དང་ཆང་དང་།
• Dancing and ornaments གར་ཕྲེང་སོགས།
• Beds/seat that is too high མལ་སྟན་ཆེ་མཐོ།
• Eating in the afternoon ཕྱི་དྲོའི་ཁ་ཟས།

(Chim:) Why are eight branches explained? ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཡན་ལག་བརྒྱད་ཅེས་བཤད་ཅེ་ན།

• In order to abandon natural negativities, there is the branch of ethics: the first four
  རང་བཞིན་གྱི་ཁ་ན་མ་ཐོ་བ་སྤོང་བའི་ཕྱིར་ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་ཀྱི་ཡན་ལག་དང་པོ་བཞི་དང་།
• Since if one drinks alcohol, one will be negligent despite possessing ethics, there is the branch of conscientiousness: the one of abandoning alcohol
  ཆང་འཐུངས་ན་ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་དང་ལྡན་ཡང་བག་མེད་པར་གྱུར་པས་ན་བག་ཡོད་པའི་ཡན་ལག་ཆང་སྤོང་བ་གཅིག་པུ་དང་།
• Due to being concordant with disillusionment, there is the branch of austerity: the last three
  དེ་བཞིན་དུ་སྐྱོ་བ་དང་རྗེས་སུ་མཐུན་པའི་ཕྱིར་བརྟུལ་ཞུགས་ཀྱི་ཡན་ལག་ཕྱི་མ་གསུམ་སྟེ་རིམ་པ་བཞིན་དུ་སྦྱར་རོ།
