Ethics

Definition of faulty ethics: That observed as a non-virtuous form of having transgressed any of the four roots and is included in either revealing or non-revealing of either body or speech.

Definition of pure ethics indicated in this context: That observed as superior individual liberation vows that act to abandon those faulty ethics.

Divisions:

  1. That included in the revealing
  2. Pure vows of individual liberation included in the level of the non-revealing

If it is a downfall, then it is not necessarily faulty ethics because if it is faulty ethics it is necessarily non-virtue.

Pure ethics possesses four benefits:

  1. The faults or harms of faulty ethics do not arise
  2. The harm of its causes (the root and secondary afflictions) does not arise
  3. Possessing their antidotes of mindfulness and introspection
  4. Functioning to attain peace nirvana
